System Requirements

DirecPC beams satellite technology directly to your home or office machine. Before you sign up, be sure your building offers a clear line of sight to the south and can accommodate a 21-inch satellite dish. You'll also need a Pentium class PC. If you're prepared to go beyond modems and ISDN, up to 400 kbps, then you're ready for DirecPC. Complete the checklist to learn instantly whether you've got what it takes.

DirecPC is for anyone who wants to get the most from the Internet. Before you sign up for DirecPC, you need the following:

• Unobstructed line of sight to the south from your home or office PC
• A Pentium class processor
• Microsoft Windows 95/98 or Windows NT 4.0
• 32 MB of RAM (minimum) and 20 MB of hard disk space
• Modem (28,800 bps or better)
• 20 MB Available Hard Disk Space (DirecPC application software)
• (Optional) 200 MB Available Hard Disk Space (Turbo Webcast and Turbo Newscast)
• A major credit card account for billing purposes (Visa, Mastercard, and American Express only)

How it works

Turbo Internet - The speed of DirecPC is the result of using advanced satellite technology, rather than crowded telephone networks that are constantly flooded or clogged. DirecPC downloads content from the Internet directly from the server to our satellite network and straight into the back of your PC.

Turbo Webcast - When you launch cached web sites using DirecPC, the request is sent to a cache management PC. From there, content is aqcuired between the Internet and the DirecPC Network Operations Center. Select key websites are sent to the satellite, which delivers content based on your preferences to the satellite antenna. From the antenna, the information is delivered, full circle, to your PC.

Turbo Newscast - DirecPC receives a Usenet Newsgroup feed from the Internet, which allows Turbo Newscast to automatically broadcast thousands of newsgroups over the DirecPC satellite system. When you subscribe to Usenet Newsgroups, Turbo Newscast filters just those newsgroups onto your PC's hard drive cache, for you to enjoy at your convenience.

Installation

You can choose to self-install DirecPC or have it professionally installed.

Self Installation

• Requires self-installation kit (Stores carrying DirecPC system usually also carry installation kit, or call 800-DirecPC and select option 1 for sales) Requires basic carpentry skills and tools may require ability to work on ladders or roofs (depending on installation location)

Professional Installation
After you purchase DirecPC system, call 800-DirecPC and select Option 3:

• Operator takes your information
• Operator sends a fax to a national installation company
• Installation company contacts you within 48 hours
• Initial quote is provided to you by phone
• A convenient Installation time/date scheduled
